H-beam is a kind of economical section with more optimized section area distribution and more reasonable strength-weight ratio. It is named because its section is the same as the English letter "H". The cross-section of h-beam steel usually consists of a web and a flange, also known as the waist and the side. The flange of h-beam is parallel or close to the plane, flange ends are at right angles, hence the name of the parallel flange
I-steel. The web thickness of H-beam is smaller than the ordinary I-steel with the same height of the web, and the flange width is larger than the ordinary I-steel with the same height of the web, so it is also named wide flange I-steel.
Determined by the shape, the section modulus, moment of inertia and corresponding strength of H-beam are obviously superior to ordinary I-beam with the same single weight. When used in different metal structures with different requirements, it shows its superior performance no matter under bending moment, pressure load and eccentric load, and can greatly improve the bearing capacity compared with ordinary I-steel, saving 10%~ 40% of the metal.
H-beam has wide flange, thin web, many specifications and flexible use, which can save 15% ~ 20% of metal in all kinds of truss structures.
